Chicago police said Parchman faces five felony charges: first-degree murder, two counts of murder committed during another forcible felony, aggravated battery of a transit employee and mob action involving force by two or more people. Bickham was travelling home from work on 7 September…
Donald Trump has claimed that the United States has reached an agreement with Denmark and Greenland to secure permanent control over the Arctic territory, although Denmark has not confirmed the arrangement. In a post on Truth Social, the US president said the deal would give Washington “permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland”, addressing what he described as American concerns. Mr Trump said the agreement had been negotiated with representatives of Denmark and Greenland at his direction. He claimed it would ensure that the US could “FOREVER have the complete ability to do what is necessary in…
Donald Trump has announced a ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House, accusing the organisations of repeatedly publishing what he called “FAKE NEWS” about his administration. The US president made the announcement on Truth Social, warning that other media outlets could face similar action. He did not explain precisely how the ban would be enforced, but said he did not want the organisations in his office, meaning the Oval Office. Journalists from the three outlets remained on White House grounds as of 4.45pm on Friday. Asked during an Oval Office healthcare event how he justified the…
A former teacher who raped a teenage pupil and kept indecent photographs of her for nearly four decades has been jailed for 12 years. Anthony Woolford, 76, was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court after being convicted of rape, indecent assault and possessing indecent images. He denied the allegations throughout the trial and claimed he did not know the woman. Woolford groomed the girl while working as a teacher in the late 1980s, persuading her to engage in sexual activity in classroom cupboards before taking her out at weekends under the pretence of going to church. Instead, he took her for…
New York lawmakers are being urged to take another step towards regulating artificial intelligence before the state Assemblymember Alex Bores leaves office at the end of the year. Mr Bores, who helped lead efforts to draw up state rules for AI, said he would support a special session in Albany as public concern grows over the technology’s risks. However, Governor Kathy Hochul’s office said there were currently no plans for lawmakers to return before January to work on AI legislation. “This is an urgent problem, and too frequently we have left it to California to set the nationwide standards,” Mr…

Seven members of Cornell University’s Chi Phi fraternity have been accused in a lawsuit of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old student after allegedly giving her ketamine and inviting others to join in. The allegations are contained in a case filed this week in Manhattan Supreme Court. The woman, identified as Jane Doe, claims the incident took place in October 2024 at the fraternity house. She alleges she had been served alcohol at a local bar before travelling alone to the house to meet a sorority sister. There, she claims, fraternity members Matthew Ingalls and Johnathan Newell pressured her to snort ketamine…

An overturned tractor-trailer in DeKalb County has caused significant delays on the westbound Interstate 20 ramp to Interstate 285, with traffic forced through a single open lane. The lorry came to rest on its side, blocking much of the ramp while emergency crews worked to secure the scene and remove the vehicle. Drivers were able to pass the wreckage slowly, but congestion built up as responders dealt with the crash. Authorities had not confirmed whether anyone was injured. The cause of the rollover remained under investigation.
Donald Trump has said he is banning CNN, MSNOW and Politico from the White House, accusing the three news outlets of reporting what he called “FAKE NEWS”. The US president announced the move on Truth Social, saying: “Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America.” He added: “Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow.” The decision is likely to face a challenge because it could conflict with constitutional guarantees protecting free speech and a free press. Trump…
