Dolly Parton’s first posthumous song, Bound to Ride, has been released ahead of its inclusion on a new tribute album celebrating bluegrass duo the Stanley Brothers.
The track was recorded in 2022 and became available digitally on September 9. It will feature on Where the Soul Never Dies: Celebrating 80 Years of The Stanley Brothers, which is due to be released on October 16 through Compass Records.
Parton is credited on the song alongside the First Ladies of Bluegrass, a group comprising Alison Brown, Becky Buller, Sierra Hull, Missy Raines and Molly Tuttle.
Because of a Covid surge at the time, Parton recorded her vocal separately at her own studio, while the musicians recorded the backing track independently. The arrangement reworks the traditional song, which the Stanley Brothers helped popularise with their 1964 recording.
The tribute album also features artists including Willie Nelson, Jamey Johnson, Dierks Bentley, Steve Martin and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
The release comes shortly before the Stanley Brothers are due to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on October 18.
