Five adults have been arrested after a viral TikTok trend allegedly prompted repeated trespassing at an unoccupied home in Suwanee, Georgia, with seven juveniles also dealt with by police.
Gwinnett County Police said officers responded to four separate incidents at the property in the 3900 block of Westbrook Road. Investigators believe some of those involved found the address through social media videos which falsely described it as an abandoned place to explore.
Police said people climbed over gates and fences before entering the house and taking photographs. Surveillance footage was used to help identify those suspected of going on to the private property.
The adults arrested were named as Vance Smith, Jackson White, Alexa Cruz, Arthur Silva and Nathan Nelson. Their alleged offences include criminal trespass, loitering and prowling, and giving a false name or date of birth to a law enforcement officer.
Of the seven juveniles involved, four were charged with criminal trespass and three were issued trespass warnings, according to police.
Although the house is currently unoccupied, it remains privately owned and is not open to the public. Officers said online claims that a property has been abandoned do not amount to permission to enter.
Gwinnett County Police warned that trespassing and related offences can lead to arrest and prosecution even when people claim they entered for entertainment, exploration or to create social media content.
Police have not released court dates for the adults or confirmed whether the property suffered any damage.
