JetBlue is to introduce a new domestic first-class cabin later this year, offering passengers wider reclining seats, upgraded entertainment and a more extensive food and drink service.
Called BlueFirst, the premium product will be available to book later this autumn and is intended for routes where the airline does not currently operate its Mint business-class cabin.
The first aircraft fitted with the new cabin is expected to enter service before the end of 2026, although JetBlue has yet to announce the initial routes or fares.
Seats will be arranged in a two-by-two configuration, with up to seven inches more legroom and five inches of recline compared with the airline’s standard economy seats. Cushions developed with mattress company Tuft & Needle are designed to provide additional support during the flight.
Each seat will have a 13.3-inch entertainment screen with Bluetooth connectivity, alongside free Fly-Fi internet and USB-A, USB-C and AC power outlets.
Passengers will be able to order drinks directly from their screens, including personalised cocktails through a feature JetBlue calls “Mixologist Mode”. The offering will also include premium snacks, wines selected by sommelier-led New York wine company Parcelle, specialty coffee and teas.
On flights of at least 899 miles, BlueFirst customers will receive a meal consisting of a main course, side and dessert. Travellers on overnight services will also be given a blanket and snooze kit.
Joanna Geraghty, JetBlue’s chief executive, said the airline had designed the cabin after customers identified comfort as their main priority.
“Domestic first class has become easy to predict. We think it’s time for a fresh take,” she said.
BlueFirst passengers will receive Group 1 boarding, priority check-in, dedicated overhead-bin space and faster security access at more than 30 airports. The package will also include two free checked bags and priority baggage delivery.
Change and cancellation fees will be waived on BlueFirst and BlueFirst Flex fares, although JetBlue said benefits attached to its lowest-priced base fares may vary.
The new cabin will sit alongside Mint rather than replace it. JetBlue has described Mint as its premium offering on selected domestic and international routes, while BlueFirst is intended to extend a first-class option across other parts of its network.
