One person has been killed and six others injured, including two police officers, after a shooting at an apartment building in downtown Minneapolis.
The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon near 15 East Grant Street, close to the Minneapolis Convention Centre. The Minneapolis Police Department urged people to stay away from the area while emergency crews dealt with the scene. Hennepin County Medical Centre said it had received seven patients, one of whom died. The conditions of the other victims were not immediately known.
Local reports said one officer had been shot in the stomach and the other in the leg. Heavily armed officers and armoured vehicles converged on an apartment complex, with support from agencies including the Minnesota State Patrol, the University of Minnesota Police Department, local sheriff’s offices and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The FBI also said it was responding.
FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau would provide “any and all resources necessary to assist local authorities”. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said state officials were on the ground supporting the local response and expressed gratitude to officers working to protect residents.
