Bodycam footage shows Pierce County deputies confronting and arresting a 23-year-old man accused of a Parkland drive-by shooting after a bullet tore through a family’s kitchen wall.
The shooting happened at about 11.30pm on Tuesday, September 1, at the Lucent Apartments on 17th Avenue South. Four people were inside the flat and preparing for bed, but no one was in the kitchen when the round struck and nobody was injured.
Deputies said witnesses reported seeing a silver SUV leave the complex. Investigators later found the vehicle at another apartment complex on 19th Avenue South, where spent shell casings were visible inside.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was inside an apartment at the second location. When he opened the door, deputies saw a firearm at his side and ordered him to drop it.
Bodycam video shows the man complying before deputies took him into custody without further incident. He was later booked into Pierce County Jail on three counts of drive-by shooting.
Parkland drive-by shooting investigation
Deputy Carly Cappetto said the family had been “incredibly lucky”, while describing the incident as the alleged negligence of a new firearm owner rather than a targeted attack.
Detectives are also examining three earlier reports of shots being fired in the same area, recorded on August 7, August 13 and August 21. The suspect has been identified as a person of interest in those cases, but investigators have not confirmed that he was responsible.
The investigation remains active. Detectives are asking anyone with photographs, video or information about the shooting or other recent gunfire in the area to contact the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
The allegations have not been tested in court.
