A major drug trafficking investigation in Lakeland, Florida, has led to 39 arrests and the seizure of enough fentanyl to kill an estimated one million people, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
The operation, named “End of Worlds” after alleged ringleader Michael Edwin Worlds Jr, targeted a network supplying fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine across Polk County. Detectives from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office worked with the Auburndale Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Investigators began examining suspected fentanyl supplier Demairo Harden earlier this year before tracing the operation to Worlds, 48, who allegedly facilitated drug sales from his home on East Memorial Boulevard in Lakeland.
After the investigation’s targets were found to be using layers of intermediaries, detectives obtained four wiretaps within 30 days. The surveillance identified Nickolas Brantley as an alleged supplier to Worlds and Cherrish Willis, 26, as his primary courier.
Operation End of Worlds drug arrests
Four search warrants were carried out at locations including Worlds’ home, two properties described as stash houses and a room at the Economy Inn hotel.
At the hotel, officers allegedly found almost 335 grams of fentanyl, nearly 147 grams of cocaine, more than 200 grams of cannabis, methamphetamine and a Glock 19 handgun reported missing in Tampa.
At one of the alleged stash houses, detectives seized 773 grams of fentanyl, more than 380 grams of cocaine and roughly 3.58kg of cannabis. A further search recovered cocaine, cannabis and ammunition from a property where Brantley was arrested.
In total, authorities seized 4.4lb of fentanyl, 2.2lb of methamphetamine, 1.5lb of cocaine, 7.8lb of cannabis, two firearms and about $4,650 in cash.
The sheriff’s office said 249 felony charges and 42 misdemeanour charges had been filed. Eighteen of those arrested face drug-trafficking charges, while 11 are facing a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years if convicted.
All of the trafficking suspects remained in custody without bail, according to investigators.
Worlds faces 67 felony charges. Police said he had previously accumulated 25 felony charges, 14 felony convictions and eight prison terms, and was released in May 2025 after serving a four-year sentence.
Judd said Worlds allegedly avoided direct contact with customers by using runners, including Valyncia Burch and her daughter Willis. Other alleged couriers included Garius Johnson, Demario Harden and Shane Chewning.
James Campbell, 49, is accused of running a separate operation that exchanged supplies with Worlds. He faces multiple charges connected to alleged methamphetamine trafficking.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said undercover purchases helped generate a further 31 drug-related arrests, alongside warrants and two arrests on unrelated offences.
“We took down two of the top five drug dealers in Lakeland, and in doing so, saved lives,” Judd said.
