Michael Jackson’s estate is seeking court approval to pay more than $9 million in legal fees incurred over six years, while opposing Paris Jackson’s request for $1,165,481.90 for a shorter period. It argues that the professionals involved helped transform the estate from one carrying more than $500 million in debt when Jackson died in 2009 into a conglomerate valued at $2 billion. The cat then climbs partway up a wall and turns its attention to a velvet honour banner hanging nearby. It repeatedly grabs at the pennant, apparently trying to use it to reach a cabinet above. However, the banner gives way during the escape attempt,…

The White House has withdrawn Lance Schroyer’s nomination to lead US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), leaving the agency without a Senate-confirmed director as it carries out President Donald Trump’s mass deportation agenda. Mr Schroyer, a former Oklahoma state trooper with limited immigration experience, is closely associated with Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, a former senator from Oklahoma. The White House gave no reason for the decision in a brief statement and did not say when a replacement would be nominated. The withdrawal comes as ICE faces intense scrutiny over its enforcement operations, including questions about how officers have been…

Shopify chief executive Tobias Lütke has warned that employees are using artificial intelligence to produce poorly checked emails and code, creating what he calls “slop grenades” for colleagues to deal with. Lütke previously told Shopify staff that using AI was “a baseline expectation” and that they should first demonstrate they “cannot get what they want done using AI” before requesting additional resources. But speaking on The Knowledge Project podcast on Tuesday, he said some employees were failing to take responsibility for the material produced by the technology. “We call those ‘slop grenades’ that people toss at each other,” Lütke said.…
