A 13-year-old boy is in critical condition after a nine-year-old allegedly fired a handgun inside a home on Chicago’s South Side, police said.
The shooting took place shortly after 4pm on Friday, September 4, in the 5200 block of South Wells Street in the Fuller Park neighbourhood.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the nine-year-old was inside the property with a firearm when a single shot was fired, striking the teenager in the shoulder.
The boy was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition. Officers recovered a handgun at the scene.
Police have not said how the child obtained the weapon or what led to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
